December 1988, we asked Dad if he would like to spend Christmas in Florida. As you can all understand Dad was so up for it. But it was not as easy as flying directly to Miami as the flights were full. I was determined to get us there so , what better way than do a road trip, fly to Washington DC. Only a few States to drive through. We drove and stopped in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and finally reached Florida.

It was Dad's first of many trips to the USA, despite having been asked to go several times previously.

This started the trips to watch Mike play sport and compete, a trip on Concorde and lovely trips with Mum to New York.

That really was a great holiday and Dad just loved it.
